Privacy notice

This notice explains how Gabs Ultra (“we”, “us”) handles personal information collected through www.gabsultra.com. We keep it short because we collect very little.

What we collect

When you become a Founding Runner we ask for your first name, last name, email address and country and, optionally, your city, running club, mobile/WhatsApp number, the distance that interests you and how you heard about us. Our newsletter, travel and training lists ask only for your email and, optionally, your name and country. Partner enquiries include your organisation and contact details.

Why we collect it

• To send you Gabs Ultra announcements, registration information and event news.
• To understand where interested runners are based and which distances appeal to them.
• To show aggregate, anonymous community statistics (such as the number of countries represented).
• To measure how the website is used and, only if you allow it, to show Gabs Ultra ads to interested runners (see “Cookies, analytics and advertising” below).

Distance preferences help us understand runner interest in the confirmed 52 km ultra, 21 km Run and 10 km Run. Choosing a preference does not constitute a race entry.

Cookies, analytics and advertising

Essential browser storage keeps the site working and remembers your cookie choice. Everything else is optional, off by default, and loads only after you opt in through the cookie banner:

• Analytics — Google Analytics 4 (Google) measures page views and anonymous interactions so we can improve the site.
• Marketing — Google Ads (Google), the Meta Pixel (Meta Platforms) and the TikTok Pixel (TikTok) let us measure our advertising and show interest-based Gabs Ultra ads to people who visited the site. These services may set cookies and receive technical data such as your IP address, browser/device details, pages visited and events such as “signed up as a Founding Runner” or “clicked a registration link”.

We never send your name, email, phone number, club, city, dedication or any form answers to these services, and we do not use advanced matching or server-side conversion uploads. Google, Meta and TikTok act as independent controllers or processors under their own privacy policies, and may process data outside Botswana. We use Google Consent Mode so Google tags stay in “denied” mode unless you agree.

You can change or withdraw your choice at any time via Cookie preferences (also in the footer). Withdrawing stops further tracking immediately. You can also manage ad settings directly with Google, Meta and TikTok.

Your consent to emails

Cookie and advertising choices are separate from our mailing lists: agreeing to cookies never signs you up for emails, and joining a list never switches on advertising cookies.

We only contact you because you ticked the consent box when you joined. You can withdraw consent and unsubscribe at any time by using the link in any email or by contacting us.

Sharing

We do not sell your information. Your details are stored securely with our hosting and messaging providers who process it only on our instructions.

Retention and your rights

We keep your details until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information at any time in line with applicable data protection law, including Botswana's Data Protection Act, 2024.
